Eric Doeringer’s “Bootleg” paintings are recreations of iconic works by Modern and Contemporary artists. In the early 2000’s, Doeringer began selling his Bootlegs on the sidewalk outside of art galleries and museums in New York City, offering paintings to budget-minded collectors for a fraction of the prices charged for the “original” works. Doeringer's artwork has been widely exhibited at venues including MoMA PS1, the Whitney Museum, the Brooklyn Museum, MASS MoCA, la Musee d'Art Moderne de la Ville de Paris, MUSAC (Spain), the Yuz Museum (China), Museum Brandhorst (Germany), Gagosian Gallery (Paris and New York), and Printed Matter (New York).
The Bootleg paintings are produced in multiple, but Doeringer makes each one by hand (often incorporating silkscreen or collage in addition to acrylic paint), so every canvas is unique. Doeringer does not consider his paintings to be “copies”, but rather his own artistic interpretations of the original works. To date, he has “recreated” paintings by more than 100 different artists. website: ericdoeringer.com Instagram:ericdoeringer
