My images are a personal exploration of my body as subject and setting. Honey and Whose Fingers explore sensuality through celebration of self. Still Water was inspired by the panic days of Covid-19 and reflects my personal emotional state. Dad Wasn't A Glass Maker was inspired by a video called The Couple in the Cage (this can be found on Youtube). I combined my body's reflection with a still of enslaved black women leaving a stage on which they were displayed for their "extreme'' body modifications. As I watched the backs of these black women cross my computer screen, they felt familiar. Then I saw my naked reflection on the screen. Throughout all of the black trauma that has become a part of everyone's daily highlights, that one moment opened an unexplainable avenue of the impact my black body has had on this country. Olympia is the first piece from this new perspective.
