Statement My current work includes small oil paintings in the landscape and still life genres. I use oil paint sculpturally, exploring surface variation early in the process. I am drawn to the subject of still life, because looking at representations of the mundane is startlingly unfamiliar. Taking time to observe and reflect is radical now, with the speed at which we process images and consume media. The dramatic lighting in my still lifes signifies the fleeting moment and alludes to anxieties around keeping track of time. My landscapes are a catharsis for the fast paced lifestyle and I paint the distance, because it generally isn’t seen in the city.
